Capability
What is being examined, who relies on it, why it matters and what is explicitly out of scope.
Digital Trust Mapping Workshop
A facilitated half-day workshop to understand dependencies, authority, evidence and decisions around a bounded digital capability.
The workshop produces a practical Digital Trust Map connecting dependencies, authority, evidence and the decisions that follow.
The problem
Technology, cyber, digital, risk, suppliers and business owners may each hold part of the picture while no one can explain the whole.
The workshop starts with one bounded capability and works through a practical sequence: Capability → dependencies → authority → evidence → decisions.
What the workshop establishes
What is being examined, who relies on it, why it matters and what is explicitly out of scope.
The material identity, domain, email, platform, SaaS, supplier, infrastructure and operating relationships that support it.
Who is accountable, who operates, who can approve or make change, and which third parties hold material authority.
What supports the current understanding, how current it is, who can validate it and where uncertainty remains.
A small number of consequential actions: assign, document, validate, reconcile, test, retire or deliberately take no action.
Workshop shape
Ideal participation is 5–8 people, with a maximum of 10. Composition matters more than headcount.
Depending on the capability, participants may include the accountable owner, technology/operations, cyber, digital/product, architecture, risk/GRC, procurement/vendor management and a relevant external provider.
A short sponsor preparation call establishes the scope, participants, obvious boundaries and existing evidence worth bringing to the session. Where evidence is missing, that uncertainty is captured rather than filled for the sake of the exercise.
Primary artefact
The client-facing map records each material dependency, why it matters, ownership, where authority sits, supporting evidence, confidence or uncertainty, relevant change triggers and any resulting decision or action.
The map makes important relationships and uncertainty visible enough for the organisation to govern them deliberately.
The workshop is a facilitated decision-support exercise focused on one important digital capability. It complements specialist security, assurance, IAM and architecture work where those disciplines are required.
